9 things you can do with your mates in Dublin instead of going to the pub

For as little as a fiver. G’wan.

BELIEVE IT OR not, there are things to do with your mates in Dublin that don’t involve the pub.

If your usual meeting place is getting a bit too usual, why not try some of these?

1. Try to Escape The Room

Challenge your friendships by working together to get out of a locked room within 60 minutes – think the Crystal Maze on a smaller scale and you’re there.

It’s €15 a head for five friends, and promises to push you “to the limit”. Oh goody.

2. Disgrace yourselves at bubble football

Put an inflatable bubble over your upper body and try, try your hardest, to play football. We dare you.

What better way to spend time with your friends than to watch them knock each other over, again and again?

Gather up a gang and head to one of the many locations around the city – Santry, Blanchardstown, Tallaght, and Coolock, to name but a few.

3. Have a boogie at Soda Bread Box

The idea is simple: Dance like a mad yoke in a dark room at Filmbase, Temple Bar for one solid hour, with no alcohol and no one to see your awful moves.

Sweaty, smiley fun.

4. Charter a fancy-ass boat

If you’re up for something a little more sophisticated, Aquamarine Charter can set you and 12 pals up on the Beluga, which will take you around Dublin Bay for €55 a head.

Not the cheapest option, but worth it for those classy, classy feels.

5. Greet the day in style at a morning rave

Despite guffaws aplenty at the news of its launch, Morning Gloryville has taken the capital by storm. Yes, sensible-minded people are now rising at 6am to dance, do yoga and eat delicious health food together before work, and you should too.

Tickets range from €10 to €20 – the next session is on July 29.

6. Tell a tall tale at Milk and Cookie Stories

This free storytelling event is held on the first Tuesday of every month at various venues around Dublin.

You can tell a story yourself, or simply sit back and listen while supping on tea and eating biscuits. What more could you ask for?

7. Indulge your inner speed demon at Kart City Raceway

Do you have the need, the need for speed? Go karting is the answer.

Your competitive side can roam free, plus you get to feel super cool in your helmet and jumpsuit. And that’s what it’s all about.

8. Hit the International Comedy Club on Wicklow Street

So technically, this is a pub, but technically, it’s also a little different to sitting at the bar all night.

Name a successful Irish comedian of the past decade or so and chances are they passed through the International Comedy Club on their way to the top.

If it’s good, you’ll be rolling in the aisles. If it’s bad, you can have the craic bitching about it afterwards. Win-win!

9. Take in some poetry at Slam Sunday

As well as being a lovely place to curl up with a book of an afternoon, the charming Accents Tea Lounge on Stephen Street Lower is also home to a popular slam poetry session on the first Sunday of every month.

It’s a fiver in, and the next session is on August 2.
